Warners digs 'Dogs'

Lane toplines dating laffer for Todds

Warner Bros. has set Diane Lane to star in "Must Love Dogs," written and to be directed by Gary David Goldberg. The romantic comedy starts shooting Sept. 27.

Lane will play a divorcee who, after choosing another Mr. Wrong, swears off dating. Her close-knit Irish-American family enrolls her in a number of online dating programs.

Suzanne and Jennifer Todd produce. Grant Rosenberg is exec producer and WB's Polly Cohen is steering the pic.

Goldberg wrote the comedy after completing "Spin City" and becoming fascinated with Internet dating.

Lane, last seen in "Under the Tuscan Sun," makes the comedy after wrapping the Griffin Dunne New Line pic "Fierce People." She may follow with the Paramount/Escape Artists pic "Need," which Marcus Nispel is attached to direct.
