Gordon jazzes up center

Exec will report to duty as org relocates

Derek Gordon, a senior VP at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center for 12 years, has been named executive director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

He takes over Aug. 1, just 2½ months before the org opens its new digs in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. Gordon will report to Hughlyn F. Fierce, president and chief exec of JALC.

Gordon will be responsible for day-to-day administration of the organization. He replaces Bruce MacCombie.

While at the Kennedy Center, Gordon was responsible for planning, management and supervision of the programs and operations for the org's education department and jazz programming. Previously he was executive director of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and executive director of the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
