Expo will honor Arnaud

Gallic helmer's pix include 'Tibet,' 'Lover,' 'Enemy'

Cinema Expo Intl. will present filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud with its 2004 international director of the year award at the confab's closing banquet June 24 in Amsterdam.

Annaud's films include "Quest for Fire," "The Bear," "Seven Years in Tibet," "The Lover," "Wings of Courage" and "Enemy at the Gates." Adventure pic "Two Brothers," which he directed, produced and co-wrote, will open in the U.S. June 25.

Annaud started out directing television commercials in France. He made his feature directorial debut with "Black and White in Color," which won the Academy Award in 1977 for Foreign Film. "Quest for Fire," "The Name of the Rose" and "The Bear" each won him a Cesar award.
