Warner Bros. lands a new 'Boy' friend

'Daddy Day Care' helmer sets next project

Warner Bros. has purchased the Hank Nelken script "Mama's Boy," with Steve Carr attached to direct. Heidi Santelli will produce and Carr will exec produce under their Carr-Santelli banner.

After Carr's gigs as a director for hire on "Daddy Day Care," "Dr. Dolittle 2" and the currently shooting Martin Lawrence starrer "Rage Control," he and Santelli searched for a smaller and edgier script for the first project they put together from scratch. They found it in "Mama's Boy," which concerns a 30ish slacker whose ideal life of living at home with his angelic mom is endangered when she falls in love with a self-help guru and prepares to marry him.

Nelken previously wrote "Saving Silverman."

"Hank has the most original comic voice I've seen in awhile," Santelli said. "He actually has you rooting for this arrogant, self-centered slacker who is obsessed with doing nothing."

Santelli, who hooked up with Carr when he was directing videos and she was running Def Jam's musicvideo division, is exec producing "Rage Control" and held the same post on "Daddy Day Care." Warners exec Polly Cohen will shepherd the project, which will be put on the fast track by WB. WMA and Nine Yards put the package together.
