'Babe' helmer preps for a 'Crash' landing

Noonan down to 'Bone' with casting for adaptation

SYDNEY -- The drought for director Chris Noonan since his 1995 worldwide hit "Babe" looks like it may be ending soon.

Noonan is in advanced talks with U.S. producers to develop "Rule of the Bone" and "Crash Dummies: Adventures in the Far-Gone."

He's already casting "Bone," a coming-of-age story he has adapted from a Russell Banks novel, with Hollywood producer Barry Mendel ("The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable").

The plan is to shoot in Jamaica and either the U.S. or Canada.

"Crash Dummies," a fantasy about families and friendships, was created by U.S. producer/director Doug Lodato ("Wild Wild West").

Noonan is writing the script, which several writers previously worked on, and will produce. He said it hasn't been determined yet whether he and Lodato will co-direct, Noonan will helm alone, or whether it will go to another director.

The project has been in development for several years.

The Henson Creature Shop and Oz f/x houses Animal Logic and Image Creative Partnership will be involved in the production. Sydney-based Image Creative Partnership is a relatively new banner formed by several people including Dave Elsey, who worked with Noonan on "Babe."

The helmer has rejected many offers to direct films since "Babe," preferring to develop his own material.
