'Midsummer' sells like a dream

Spanish 3D toon currently in prod'n, skedded for 2005 release

MADRID -- Spanish toon production house Dygra Films has added a new sale on its 3D animated feature film "Midsummer Dream" with Medusa acquired all rights for Italy.

The Medusa deal builds on a healthy Cannes market where "Midsummer" was also bought by ABC-Cinemien for Benelux, Front Row for the Middle East, Noah for Israel, Media Source for China, Summerstorm for Hong Kong and Taiwan and Box Office for Thailand.

"Midsummer" has now been sold to 40 territories. Prior to Cannes, Ruscico took Russia, Beverly Hills and Latin America.

Spanish international sales company Lumina Films acquired overseas sales rights outside Spain and Portugal to "Midsummer" last fall.

The E8 million ($9.6 million) toon pic is produced by Galicia-based Dygra Films, the creators of "The Living Forest," which was a B.O. hit in Spain.

Now in production, "Midsummer Dream" is co-produced by Portugal's Appia Filmes. Its release in Spain is skedded for July 25, 2005.
