Penn to pen Rock vehicle

Scribe is the prey as U's 'Hunter' rounds out cast

Zak Penn is in negotiations to write "Spy Hunter" for Universal Pictures and director John Woo.

The film will star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the adaptation of Midway's long-running vidgame franchise.

Pic follows the story of a former F-15 pilot recruited to become a member of Spy Hunters, an elite government agency that must defeat a cartel seeking world domination.

Producers are Chuck Gordon and Adrian Askarieh with Woo and partner Terrence Chang via their Lion Rock banner. Marty Adelstein and Neil Moritz will exec produce.

"Spy" is being developed for a 2005 release.

Penn was a writer on the 20th Century Fox pics "Elektra," "X2" and "Behind Enemy Lines." He also wrote the upcoming Paramount Pictures release "Suspect Zero."
