"Battle for Paradise" is a biopic about Hawaii's ruler King Kamehameha, who conquered and united the Hawaiian islands in the 1700s, during a time when they were plagued by warring tribes.
Essex is the author of "Kleopatra," a retelling of the story of the Egyptian monarch, published in 2001 by Warner Books. Essex adapted the book for the screen, and the project is being developed into a film at Warner Bros., with Adam Schroeder producing. Essex also adapted horror scribe Anne Rice's "The Mummy" for Lightstorm Entertainment, a film in development at Fox.
