With tickets for such events generally doled out free to the well-connected or those who know where to call months in advance or are willing to wait in line all day, Hollywood has never put a pricetag on these ducats. But Internet auction site StubHub.com is finding out how much fans are willing to pay.
For the "Survivor All Stars" finale at Madison Square Garden, the answer was an astounding $3,300 for two tickets.
The Web site, which primarily serves as an online marketplace for the reselling of live event tickets, has begun partnering with studios and networks to auction off tickets to premieres and tapings for charity.
While "Survivor" was far and away the priciest Hollywood tickets StubHub has sold to date, it also broke the $1,000 barrier for tickets to the premieres of "The Punisher" and "Godsend." Tickets to higher-profile pics will likely fetch even higher bids. On the non-event TV front, company has fetched $600 per pair of tickets for episodes of "American Idol."
Other skeins partnering with StubHub include "The Daily Show" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."
Auctions raise StubHub's profile and let studios help out a worthy cause. But they also show just far ardent fans are willing to go for a taste of Hollywood glitz and glamor.
