LONDON -- Jason Biggs has taken the lead role in Saul Metztein's "Guy X," a black comedy set in a secret Arctic military base in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.
Pic, which started shooting Monday on location in Iceland, also stars Natasha McElhone, Jeremy Northam and Michael Ironside.
Set in 1979 as Ronald Reagan is gearing up his presidential campaign and the Cold War is entering its endgame, "Guy X" is the story of an American soldier transferred by clerical error to the Arctic and unable to escape because he no longer officially exists.
Steve Attridge and John Paul Chapple adapted the script from John Greismer's novel "No-One Thinks of Greenland," itself inspired by the story of the secret American hospital where fatally injured soldiers from the Korean War, officially billed as missing in action, were sent to die.
Pic is produced by Film & Music Entertainment, Spice Factory and Movision, backed by the Film Consortium and sold worldwide by its sales arm the Works.
Producers are Mike Downey, Sam Taylor, Jason Piette and Michael Cowan. Exec producers are Chris Auty, Neil Peplow, Peter James, James Simpson and F&ME chairman Stephen Daldry.
"Although set in the post-Vietnam period, it is a very contemporary story, very much reflecting our times in an entertaining, wise, humorous and intellectually rigorous way," Daldry said. "The story is great, the cast is world class and the time is right for this kind of movie."
Project is a co-production of Iceland, Canada and the U.K. It has been pre-sold to Tartan Films in the U.K., Seville in Canada and Greenlight in Iceland, along with Scanbox in Scandinavia.
It was originally due to be co-financed by Grosvenor Park's First Choice fund but was forced back to the drawing board after First Choice was outlawed in the U.K.'s Feb. 10 clampdown on tax avoidance schemes.
Project is one of several rescued by Movision.
