Seven-day event, called Torn Curtain, will kick off today in cinemas and other venues in the Italian capital.
Expected guests include Polish actor-helmer Jerzy Stuhr, who will present latest feature "Tomorrow's Weather," and Cypriot director Michael Cacoyannis, whose 1975 Cypriot civil war docu "Attilas '74" will unspool. Hungary's Miklos Jancso will bring his pic "The Lord's Lantern in Budapest"; Slovak Martin Sulik will present his "The Key for Determining Dwarfs"; and Estonian auteur Sulev Keedus will show "Somnambulance," which recently unspooled at Rotterdam.
Fest is sponsored by Italo state film entity Istituto Luce and pubcaster RAI, which will air some of the fare.
Event will precede the official ceremony May 1 in Dublin, Ireland, during which Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia will gain EU citizenship.
