Although he was often a bit player, few other German actors had as many supporting roles in Hollywood productions.
He started his career in the U.S. in 1966 with obscure horror musical "The Ghost In The Invisible Bikini," followed by Blake Edwards' "What Did You Do In The War, Daddy?"
Frequently cast as the archetypal blond Teutonic soldier, he later moved to Rome's Cinecitta, often appearing under the name Herbert Andreas. In Germany, he had roles in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Beware of a Holy Whore" and "Lilli Marleen." Other credits include Roland Emmerich's "Enemy Mine" and 1985 spy thriller "Red Heat." He also guested on TV shows including "Combat" and "My Favorite Martian."
Most recently, he appeared in Donald Sutherland starrer "Baltic Storm" and history epic "Luther."
