Pay cabler has picked up the exclusive pay TV rights to the Morgan Spurlock's Sundance sensation "Super Size Me," which it will bow early next year under its "Sho Exposure" documentary banner.
"Super Size Me" chronicles Spurlock's monthlong experiment during which he ate only McDonald's fast food and his subsequent health problems. Doc premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, where Spurlock took top honors for achievement in directing.
In addition, FX is already planning to give the pic the small-screen treatment -- before the theatrical release May 7.
Cabler partnered with Spurlock and reality producer Ben Silverman last month for the one-hour reality series pilot "30 Days," which takes a page from the feature and places placing a willing participant in a life that starkly contrasts with his or her own for a period of 30 days (Daily Variety, March 19).
Spurlock and the Con produced the pic with exec producers J.R. Morley and Heather Winters. "Super Size Me" is being released by Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films.
Other docs set to premiere under Showtime's "Sho Exposure" banner include "The Opposite of Sex," "Mayor of Sunset Strip," "Bowling for Columbine," "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" and "Step Into Liquid."
