Linklater's 'Darkly' adds producer, toon director

Duo join animated Dick adaptation

Tommy Pallotta has joined Warner Independent Pictures' "A Scanner Darkly" as a producer, while Bob Sabiston will serve as the pic's animation director.

Richard Linklater is directing the film, which, like his "Waking Life," will convert live-action footage into animated sequences.

Sabiston was the animation director on "Waking Life."

Keanu Reeves stars in "Darkly." Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, it begins lensing in May.

George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh's Section 8 produce the pic, along with A Thousand Words' Jonah Smith and Palmer West. Anne Walker-McBay also is producing the project.

Pallotta most recently helmed several musicvids for the band Zero 7 and is developing a film for Microsoft's Xbox gaming console, which he will also direct. He produced animated film "Roadhead," PBS series "Figures of Speech," short "Snack and Drink" and pic "The High Road," which he also helmed.
