Harris, a writer and co-producer on HBO's "Sex and the City," describes the story as a modern-day retelling of "The Prince and the Pauper," with twin girls separated at birth and reunited at age 18.
"One ends up in a very wealthy family environment with a single mom," Harris said. "The other ends up with a more motley crew led by parents who are hippies running an organic restaurant."
When the girls meet, "they decide to see how the other half lives. It's a very classic story I can tell with a very modern twist," Harris said.
"Switched" is based on a treatment by Matt Lopez.
Overseeing for U is exec Amy Kane and, for Josephson Entertainment, veep Ami Vitori.
