Nicole Kassell ("The Woodsman") will direct the feature adaptation of Arthur Miller's play "The Ride Down Mt. Morgan" for Mark Canton's Atmosphere Pictures.

Michael Douglas has already been announced to star in and produce the pic.

"Morgan" is a comic satire on the state of contemporary marriage. Kassell is currently rewriting the script, which was initially adapted by Jesse Wigutow.

Written by Miller in 1991, "The Ride Down Mt. Morgan" premiered in London and had its American theatrical debut in 1996 at the Williamstown Theater Festival. It later moved to the New York Public Theater, followed by a Broadway production. In 2000, it was nominated for a Tony Award for best play.

Atmosphere principal Canton will produce with Douglas' Furthur Films. Furthur's Marcy Drogin and Atmosphere's Bernie Goldmann and Steve Barnett will serve as the film's executive producers.

Pic is one of the projects Canton's Atmosphere inherited from Artists Production Group. When Canton launched his company last November, APG turned over most of its motion picture assets in exchange for capped profit participation on the individual projects.

"The Woodsman" a controversial tale about a convicted pedophile that stars Kevin Bacon, Benjamin Bratt and Kyra Sedgwick, will be released by Newmarket Film Group this fall.
