Opera bows mobile phone, DVR hookup

Users may program recorders via cell

TiVO may have freed TV viewers from being home on the networks' schedules, but browser developer Opera is offering new technology that lets users program a digital video recorder without being home at all.

Opera this week unveiled a mobile interactive program guide that can sync up with new DVRs, most of which are broadband-enabled. Software allows users to view program grids on cellular phones and select shows to be recorded by their DVR at home.

Norwegian company will debut the new product at the Mediacast 2004 conference in London in May.
