CANNES -- Granada Intl. has inked a batch of deals on four new TV movies in its "Poirot" collection, based on author Agatha Christie's novels about the fictional Belgian detective, which were launched at the mart in the presence of its star, David Suchet.
All four films, which include an adaptation of "Death on the Nile," were bought by ABC Australia, which has also taken video rights.
The distrib also concluded sales of the pics to TMC in France, TVNZ in New Zealand and broadcasters in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.
In other deals, new crime series "Murder City," starring Amanda Donahoe, sold to TVNZ and to Showcase in Canada, while "Life Begins," from "Cold Feet" creator Mike Bullen, also went to TVNZ and Seven Network in Australia.
French cable channel Planete bought a clutch of docs including "Built for Destruction" and "The Way of All Flesh."
Granada Intl. said video and DVD business was also brisk on TV movies from the Carlton Film Collection, which now forms a part of Granada's catalog after the merger of the two companies earlier this year.
