Film will unspool Saturday as part of the New Directors/New Films fest lineup in New York.
Story takes place two years after the official end of the civil war in a Bosnian town still struggling to restore order. When news comes of an impending visit from President Clinton, the town must band together to build democracy in a week.
Initiative's mission is to support filmmaking in the developing world and foster cross-cultural understanding through cinema. Last year, it acquired 11 titles and offered grants to 12 other films.
"The universal themes in 'Fuse' are punctuated by humor and reflect an authentic voice from Bosnia's conflicted history," said Initiative's chair, Susan Coulter.
Pic has also nabbed prizes at the Locarno and Sarajevo fests.
