Cronenberg
HOLLYWOOD -- David Cronenberg is attached to helm "London Fields," based on Martin Amis' 1991 novel of the same name.
Script by Roberta Hanley ("Woundings") and Amis follows a promiscuous psychic troubled by disturbing premonitions that are all the more unnerving for never being wrong. Tale is set in and around a seedy London pub, where the psychic has come to meet the end her dreams have foretold: to be murdered by one of two men she meets there -- but which one?
Amis' other 1991 novel, "Dead Babies," was turned into the 2000 drama "Mood Swingers" by actor-director William Marsh. That pic, which starred Paul Bettany, was released Stateside by First Look Pictures.
"London Fields" is being produced by Muse Prods.' Chris Hanley and Hamish McAlpine of Metro Tartan. No distribs have come aboard as yet, but Muse is in discussions with several, and the pic is going out to cast.
Exec producers are Lilly Bright of Curiously Bright and David Guy Levy of Periscope, in association with Arrival Entertainment. Cronenberg also may produce in some capacity.
Indie helmer Cronenberg most recently came aboard his first studio film, New Line Cinema's "A History of Violence." That pic is based on the graphic novel of the same name, the first in the "Paradox Graphic Mystery" line published by Paradox Press/DC Comics.
Cronenberg most recently helmed the 2002 Ralph Fiennes-toplined "Spider." A thriller based on Patrick McGrath's novel of the same name, "Spider" was nommed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
