Aspiring soccer players reach for 'Stars'

Screentime's 'Soccastars' preeming Sunday in Portugal

SYDNEY -- Screentime Partners has licensed its "Soccastars" format to a slew of international broadcasters. The first production will preem Sunday on Portugal's RTP web.

Show gives aspiring male and female soccer players the chance to strut their stuff in front of judges drawn from local football stars. The male winner gets a one-year contract with a top local club and the female will receive a place in a U.S. college soccer program.

Format was created by Screentime's Dublin-based subsid Screentime ShinAwiL. Options to produce the show have been acquired for Germany (GAT Prods.), the U.K. (12 Yard), Spain (Boca Boca), China (Odyssey Media), Israel (MTVS Intl.) and the Middle East (Stryx and Alkarma).

Valentim de Carvalho is making 10 episodes of "Soccastars" in Portugal, airing at 9 p.m.

The series will kick off in Ireland on RTE this summer, produced by Screentime ShinAwiL.

In Turkey, Show TV will broadcast the skein from September, produced by STR Prods.
