Par and Bar 'User' friendly

Prod'n companies take on laffer by 'Bravo' scribes

Paramount Pictures has decided to make use of "The User," buying a pitch from the scripting team of Eric Abrams and Matthew Berry for Guy Walks Into a Bar and Penn Station to produce.

Story centers on a prospective groom who unwittingly becomes the subject of an angry female rock anthem.

Producers will be Guy Walks Into a Bar principals Todd Komarnicki and Jon Berg and Penn Station partners Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris. Both shingles signed first-look production deals with Paramount last year.

"We think this continues our tradition of smart comedies with young, talented writers, and we're hoping this will be the first of many collaborations with Penn Station," Berg said.

Warner Bros. Pictures hired Abrams and Berry last fall to pen the live-action feature adaptation of Cartoon Network's "Johnny Bravo," with Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson attached to star; pic's being produced by Original Films, with "Bravo" creator-writer-director Van Partible exec producing.

Guy Walks Into a Bar, which produced "Elf" as its maiden project, has set up comedy "The Manny" at Par, with "Elf" writer David Berenbaum penning the script. Penn Station's first Paramount projects are "The Girl Who Could Fly," a spec by Victoria Lakeman, and an adaptation of Michael Marshall Smith's sci-fi novel "Spares" along with Vertigo Entertainment partners Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Georgaris has penned scripts for several key Par projects including "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life," "Paycheck" and "The Manchurian Candidate."
