LeRoi
Paramount Pictures is taking another swing at "The Club," tapping Emmy winner Ali LeRoi to pen the golfing comedy.
Project, produced by Par-based Walter Latham ("The Original Kings of Comedy") and MBST Entertainment's Larry Brezner, centers on the fictional George Washington Carver Country Club in Compton. The facility's owner attempts to solve its financial problems by luring a pro golf event, sparking a fight between his son and a local hustler.
Project was set up at Paramount last year, based on a story by writer-director David Raynr.
LeRoi, who won an Emmy for writing on "The Chris Rock Show," also has written for "Saturday Night Live," the MTV Music Video Awards and "The Orlando Jones Show." He's exec producer on the Chris Rock pilot for Fox TV. Feature scripting credits include "Head of State" and "Down to Earth"; he was also producer on "Pootie Tang."
"I've known Ali since his days as a standup comedian opening for Bernie Mac," Latham noted. "I'm excited about finally having an opportunity to work with him in this capacity."
