SYDNEY -- Ali Larter (New Line's "Final Destination" franchise) will play the title role in the previously announced "Marigold: An Adventure in India," a musical comedy about an American actress who goes to India and gets caught up in the eccentric world of Bollywood.
Shooting will begin in northern India and London in June after Larter wraps "A Lot Like Love," with Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet, according to Reiko Bradley, prexy of Becker Films Intl., "Marigold" distrib and co-financier.
Pic is a co-production between the U.K.'s Charles Salmon, using Brit sale-and-lease-back funds, and a German partner whose deal is being finalized.
Larter will star opposite the previously announced Salman Khan ("Tere naam"), who plays her Bollywood dance instructor.
"Ali has brought a fresh approach to all her roles, and she's fearless about the challenges of singing, dancing, physical comedy -- and 10 weeks in India during the summer," said writer-director Willard Carroll.
Bradley said "Marigold" clinched pre-sales at the American Film Market for Scandinavia (Svensk), South Africa (Nu Metro), Portugal (Castello Lopes) and the Middle East (Phars). She is negotiating a seven-figure deal with an Indian distrib and said three U.S. studios are circling the project.
