Drake Sather

TV, film scribe

TV and film scribe Drake Sather, co-writer of the film "Zoolander" with Ben Stiller, died March 3 in Los Angeles of undisclosed causes. He was 44.

A native of Seattle, Sather was a writer on "Saturday Night Live" in 1993 and 1994. He went on to write for "The Dennis Miller Show" and "The Larry Sanders Show" as well as "NewsRadio" and "Ed."

The Zoolander character, played by Stiller, was first seen in two shorts, "Derek Zoolander: Male Model" and "Derek Zoolander University," both written by Stiller and Sather, before becoming the 2001 comedy feature.

Sather's last credit was the upcoming TV comedy remake of "Mr. Ed," on which he was also an executive producer.

He is survived by his wife, Marnie Sather, and four children.

Donations may be made to the Sather children's College Bound Funds; checks should be made payable to City National Bank, FBO Sather Children College Plan; and mailed to Rigney/Friedman Business Management, 12400 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 850, Los Angeles, CA 90025.
