France's RTBF drops Euronews

World Brief

European news channel Euronews has lost its morning slot on the flagship channel of French-language pubcaster RTBF, just over a month after reopening its Brussels office in a blaze of publicity.

La Une had been using Euronews to fill the 7-9 a.m. slot since March 2. Viewers complained, and pubcaster has reverted to its early morning pattern of repeating its news bulletins from the previous evening.

"It seems that when viewers wake up, they prefer to watch local news," an RTBF spokesman said.

Euronews is backed by many of Europe's leading pubcasters, including RTBF, which has a 0.7% stake.
