Fywell's lacing up skates to helm 'Ice'

Trachtenberg to star in ugly-duckling tale

Tim Fywell has come aboard to direct "Ice Princess" for Walt Disney Pictures.

Pic will star Michelle Trachtenberg in a classic ugly-duckling tale about a young girl who realizes her dream of becoming a champion figure skater while battling a disgraced coach, stage parents and three competing ice princesses.

Project was penned by Meg Cabot, with the most recent draft of the screenplay written by Hadley Davis. Bridget Johnson is producing pic, which is pegged for a spring shoot.

Fywell most recently helmed Brit period drama "I Capture the Castle" based on Dodie Smith's novel.

Karen Glass, senior VP of production for Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group, will oversee pic for the studio with production VP Kristin Burr.

Trachtenberg recently starred in "Eurotrip" for DreamWorks. She also starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and indie drama "Mysterious Skin" for helmer Gregg Araki.
