Par names vet U exec for prod'n

Paramount Pictures has tapped veteran Universal exec Allison Brecker-Shearmur as executive VP of production for the motion picture group.

Brecker-Shearmur, who has served in a similar slot at U since 1998, is in final negotiations on her deal. During her tenure at Universal, she oversaw development of the "American Pie" trilogy, "Along Came Polly," "Erin Brockovich" and "The Bourne Identity."

Move represents another major change in Par's exec suite amid middling box office perfs and pledges to take more risks in development.

Vice chair and studio co-prexy John Goldwyn ankled in November and was replaced by Donald De Line; Michelle Manning left as co-prexy of the motion picture group last month; and Gerry Rich was named marketing chief last week.

Brecker-Shearmur's hire gives Par a second exec VP of production along with Brian Witten.

She worked with De Line between 1994 and 1997 as VP of development and production for Touchstone during his tenure as Touchstone president and was responsible for "George of the Jungle."

De Line cited Brecker-Shearmur's tenacity, strong eye for material and solid relations with talent.

"When she decides to do something, it gets done," he added.

Brecker-Shearmur broke into showbiz in 1988 with Columbia Pictures in Gotham and eventually joined the Sony film production group in Los Angeles. She was VP of development at Stewart Pictures from 1992 to 1994.
