Classification clash

World Brief

A tug of war for control of France's film classification board has ended in a partial victory for the cultural community.

Following a report last year condemning violence in the media, Gaul's Ministry for the Family tried to wrest control of the board in a recent shakeup.

But this week the presidency went to Sylvie Hubac, a former Culture Ministry senior official.

However, the Ministry for the Family did win some representation on the board, as did child specialists.

Some Gallic filmmakers fear the new membership will be more censorious than previous committees.
