HBO declined comment.
Though Soderbergh and Clooney retired the political docudrama/reality hybrid "K-Street" in November, HBO remained eager to pursue another project with the duo. Likewise, the pair hinted at a second go-round with the cabler, both schedules permitting (
Daily Variety, Nov. 24).
"K Street," centered on the day-to-day operations of D.C. lobbyists, ran for 10 episodes. It was directed by Soderbergh and exec produced by Section Eight alongside James Carville and Mark Sennet. Series followed a fictitious Washington consulting firm featuring real-life Democratic stalwart Carville and his wife, Republican strategist Mary Matalin.
Section Eight produced the Warner Bros. thriller "Criminal," starring John C. Reilly, Diego Luna and Maggie Gyllenhaal, to be released later this year. Company is in production on "The Jacket," toplining Adrien Brody, Keira Knightley and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and will next work on "Ocean's Twelve," sequel to the heist pic "Ocean's Eleven."
