Speier
has been named managing editor of
Variety and
Daily Variety, it was announced by editor-in chief
Peter Bart.
Prior to this promotion, Speier had oversight of Special Reports. In that capacity he developed several new sections for the paper and presided over expanded Oscar coverage.
Before taking over Specials, he served as assistant managing editor in charge of
Daily Variety Gotham and was also a contributing television critic.
Speier joined
Variety in 1997 from Millimeter Magazine. A graduate of Syracuse University, Speier grew up in Dallas, Texas. He and his wife, Michiko, have two children.
