Julie Taymor, Rebecca Miller and Chris Hegedus will be among the femme filmmakers gathering for the inaugural Fusion Film Festival.
Fest to take place March 4-6, is a student event that aims to salute women directors and cinematographers. Fusion was founded by NYU's Tisch School of the Arts graduate senior Gina Abatemarco and undergrad alum Emma Heald. Pair hopes to inspire more women to pursue careers in the field, and encourage collaboration between the genders at NYU.
Festival's special events include a panel about breaking into the biz with Taymor, producer Lisa Muskat ("All the Real Girls") and director Jessica Sharzer ("Speak"). A forum on female cinematographers and directors will include Miller, doc director Chris Hegedus and cinematographer Ellen Kuras.
Student showcase on Mar. 5 will end in an awards ceremony, open to Tisch students and alums who have made a project with a woman director or d.p.
New York Women in Film and Television, Kodak, and the Kanbar Inst. of Film and TV at the Tisch School are among the fest's sponsors.
