LONDON -- "Bend It Like Beckham" director Gurinder Chadha is one of four new members to join the board of the U.K. Film Council.

The others include lawyer Mark Devereux of Olswang; Colin Brown, chair of f/x house Cinesite; and Heather Rabbatts, managing director of Channel 4's education division.

Announcing the appointments, films minister Estelle Morris commented, "If we are to bolster the U.K.'s role in the global market, we need the very best people with a wide range of experience leading at the top. I'm certain that their combined wealth of experience and expertise in filmmaking and film infrastructure will prove to be an asset."

These appointments bring the Film Council board back up to full strength with 15 members, following the retirement last year of founding members Chris Auty, Duncan Kenworthy, Paul Webster and Dawn Airey.
