Last-minute laffer orders Monday included the sitcom pilots "Spellbound" and "Sweden, Ohio" at Fox and "The Bad Girl's Guide" at UPN.
Meanwhile, Scott Glenn has been cast in CBS drama "Wanted," while the WB has rounded out the roster on its sci-fier "The Robinsons: Lost in Space" and Christen Nelson has joined NBC's improv laffer "Everyday Life."
"Sweden, Ohio," which comes from Warner Bros. TV, revolves around a teenage boy whose life suddenly gets more interesting when a sexy foreign exchange student moves in with his family.
Greg Malins ("Friends," "Come to Papa") will exec produce; concept comes from scribes Bill Fritz and Kurt Voelker, who will write and serve as supervising producers.
Also from Warner Bros. TV, Fox has greenlit the pilot "Spellbound." Project has been redeveloped from last season, when it was set up at NBC.
Rob Greenberg and Suzanne Martin (who also has a comedy pilot set up this season at ABC) will write and exec produce, while Andy Ackerman will direct and also exec produce. Sitcom follows the turmoil that comes when a male witch falls in love with a mortal woman.
Over at UPN, "The Bad Girl's Guide" is based on author Cameron Tuttle's bestselling series of books of the same name (
Daily Variety, Nov. 18).
Jennifer Heath and Michele Wolff ("Tiny Boyfriend") will write and exec produce the project, which will also be exec produced by Tony Krantz ("24"). Tuttle is on board as a writer and supervising producer.
Krantz's Flame Television will produce the laffer, which was originally set up at Warner Bros. TV but has now been taken over by Paramount Network TV.
Glenn ("Buffalo Soldiers") has signed on to play Bill Spence, the department chief in "Wanted." The Warner Bros./25C/CBS Prods. drama pilot revolves around officers assigned to the fugitive department of the LAPD. Sarah Timberman, Cynthia Cidre, Thomas Carter and Carl Beverly are behind the show.
Glenn's recent credits include feature "Training Day" and "The Shipping News" and telepic "A Painted House."
Nelson joins the Peacock's "Everyday Life" as Winnie, a therapist and older sister to the character played by Josh Radnor. The actress, a former member of comedy troupe the Groundlings, was a regular on the WB sketch laffer "Hype."
"Everyday Life," from Universal Network TV, comes from Daniel Paige, Sue Paige, Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman. Reiner is on board to direct.
As for the Frog's "The Robinsons," Brad Johnson ("Left Behind: The Movie") has joined as John Robinson, while Ryan Malgarini ("Freaky Friday") will play Will Robinson. The duo join cast members Jayne Brooke, Mike Erwin and Adrianne Palicki.
The drama from 20th, FTVS, Lion Rock, Regency and Synthesis comes from Kevin Burns, Terence Chang, John Jashni, Doug Petrie, John Woo and Suzanne Zizzi.
