Film Machine's in gear
Shingle to arrange financing for pics below $2 mil
Based in Los Angeles and Barcelona, the Film Machine aims to arrange financing between the U.S. and Europe on pics budgeted below $2 million.
Ferran Viladevall said the company is working on a first project, an actioner to shoot in Europe later this year. "The films will be English language, usually made for TV or straight to video, but could merit a theatrical opening, especially in the case of horror pics," he said.
The lead actors in the films probably would be American, he added, although pics would mix U.S. and European financing and above-the-line talent.
Film Machine was a lead producer on "Hotel Room," the 1999 feature film debut of admired Spanish helmer Cesc Gay ("Nico and Dani," "In the City"). Since then it has focused on TV production, such as news coverage and human interest stories.
Ferran Viladevall also took a production credit on first-timer Zachary Hansen's "Killer Me," which preemed at the Telluride Film Festival in 2001.
