Indiedom gathered in full force Tuesday at Gotham's swank Soho House for a cocktail reception hosted by
Julianne Moore to toast her friend and fellow redhead
Patricia Clarkson's Oscar nomination as best supporting actress in UA's "Pieces of April."
"It's not about hair color, but I definitely have feelings of solidarity with her," said Moore. "I've always thought Patti was an extraordinary talent, and frankly I thought she should have gotten a nomination last year for 'Far From Heaven,' so I'm very glad she got one this year."
"When I first saw Patti in
Richard Greenberg's
play 'Eastern Standard,' I said, 'I really want to work with that actress,' and it took 19 years to make it happen," said "April" writer-director
Peter Hedges. "She's an actor's actor. She can do anything."
A friend of Clarkson's since they met at Yale School of Drama registration in 1982, Tony-winner Greenberg was a guest at the reception along with "April" co-stars
Oliver Platt and
John Gallagher Jr. Also on hand were
Lisa Cholodenko, who directed the honoree in "High Art," and
Peter Sarsgaard, who recently wrapped "The Dying Gaul" with Clarkson.
Other guests at Tuesday's intimate gathering included directors
Bart Freundlich,
Paul Thomas Anderson,
Rebecca Miller and
John Cameron Mitchell, actors
Stanley Tucci,
Philip Seymour Hoffman,
Noah Emmerich,
John Slattery and
Dylan Baker and producer
Jean Doumanian.
