Horwitch
The Writers Guild of America West has tapped Jason Horwitch, who penned FX's telepic "The Pentagon Papers," to receive its Paul Selvin Award.
Kudo will be presented Saturday at the WGA's 56th annual award ceremonies, held simultaneously at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and the Pierre Hotel in New York.
The award goes to a guild member whose script "best embodies the spirit of the constitutional and civil rights and liberties which are indispensable to the survival of free writers everywhere." Selvin served as counsel to the guild for 25 years.
Previous recipients include Alison Cross; George Stevens Jr.; Cynthia Whitcomb; Gary Ross; David E. Kelley; Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski; Eric Roth & Michael Mann; Tim Sexton; and last year's recipients, John Wierick & Jacob Krueger.
"Jason Horwitch has eloquently told the inspiring story of how one man can truly make a difference in this world," said WGAW prexy Charles Holland. "In turn, his artistry has inspired countless writers, artists and citizens at large to take a stand and affect positive change."
"The Pentagon Papers" received a 2003 Emmy nomination along with Directors Guild of America and Producers Guild of America noms.
Horwitch also penned 1998's "Finding Graceland" and the 2002 teleplay "Joe and Max," about Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. Horwitch's recent projects include HBO miniseries "Alexander the Great," a biopic on Evel Knievel in pre-production at TNT as well as several drama pilots for NBC and CBS.
