The comedy is an adaptation of the Washington Post article "Bride and Joy: Guiding Mom Down the Aisle," written by Francesca Segre.
MGM and Cosmic had been seeking a writer for the project after optioning the article last summer. No director is yet attached to the pic.
Instead of a mother planning her daughter's wedding, plot revolves around a single woman who finds herself in the unusual position of planning her mother's wedding and must also serve as the "mother of the bride." Hawn will play the mother.
Fox recently wrote Warner Bros.' upcoming Olsen twins comedy "New York Minute," and she is doing a rewrite of the "Valley of the Dolls" remake for Fox and helmer Betty Thomas.
She is also writing and exec producing the TV pilot "Cooking Lessons" for Warner Bros. TV and the Tannenbaum Co. Project's based on Amanda Hesser's book "Cooking for Mr. Latte: A Food Lover's Courtship." Scribe is repped by ICM.
Cosmic's Emily Cummins and Jay Cohen are producing the project with Hawn. Cosmic is headed by Hawn, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.
MGM executive Elizabeth Cantillon is overseeing the pic at the studio.
"Daughter of the Bride" becomes the third wedding-themed project Cosmic is developing.
Company is producing "Bride Wars" at Miramax, which will star Hudson, and developing the romantic comedy "Here Comes the Bride" at Disney.
