Kate Bosworth has taken a small but pivotal role in Fox Searchlight drama "Bee Season," which is about to begin production with directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel.

"Bee Season" revolves around a father (Richard Gere) who escapes the dysfunction of his family by fixating on the spelling bee prowess of his young daughter (Laura Cross). He barely notices that his wife (Juliette Binoche) has come unhinged or that his teenage son (Max Minghella) is about to be lured into a cult by his new girlfriend.

Bosworth, the "Blue Crush" star who just opened in "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!," will play that temptress, a member of a Hare Krishna-like cult. "Bee Season" is being produced by Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa.

Bosworth takes the role after playing Sandra Dee opposite Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin in "Beyond the Sea" for Lions Gate.
