MADRID -- Michael Moore's doc "Roger and Me," made in 1997, will be one of the titles showcased in the Documentary Frontiers retro at the 5th Int'l Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Fest will take place March 12-20 in Spain's tropical Canary Islands.
In a pioneering initiative for Spain's festivals, Documentary Frontiers will illustrate a wide range of the new docu trends of the '90s, such as mockumentaries, experimental pieces and films which clearly reflect a filmmaker's subjective vision.
Other titles announced for the section -- co-ordinated by journalist Antonio Weinrichter -- are BBC's "The War Game," Errol Morris's "The Thin Blue Line" and Craig Baldwin's "Sonic Outlaws."
On the fiction front, a panorama of new films from South Korean helmers such as Kim Ki-Duk and Im Kwon-Taek will unspool, while the work of Ismail Merchant and James Ivory get a retrospective.
Spanish vet actor Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez ("The National Shotgun," "The Phone Box") will receive a lifetime award.
The Las Palmas fest will screen around 130 titles. "For this fifth edition, we look like achieving the objectives established by the festival foundation of meshing young, cutting-edge indie pics with a more exotic films with a large artistic merit," director Claudio Utrera told

The fest will also host the 2nd edition of a minimart, EuroForum '04 Co-Production Market, March 18-20.
