Film and TV actor Sean McClory, who appeared in John Huston's "The Quiet Man," died Dec. 10 in Hollywood of heart failure. He was 79.

Born in Ireland, he began his acting career at the Galway Taidbearc Theater at age 8. He graduated from the U. of Galway, which recently opened the Huston School of Film & Digital Media. McClory was to be honored at the opening of the school last summer, hosted by the helmer's daughter Anjelica Huston, but ill health prevented his attendance.

He was a member of the Abbey Players of Dublin, where he was discovered by RKO and cast in "The Quiet Man." He worked frequently with John Ford, John Wayne and John Huston, appearing in more than 80 films and 580 TV episodes.

Among his feature films are "Lorna Doone," "Charade," "Them!," "Roller Boogie," "My Chauffeur" and Huston's "The Dead."

McClory's TV appearances included "Perry Mason," "Rawhide," "Mannix," "Fantasy Island" and "Columbo."

He is survived by his wife, actress Peggy Webber, two sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren.
