Pomerance tapped IDT exec veep

Vet returns from sabbatical to new post

Veteran Gotham film executive Ruth Pomerance has been named exec VP of production and development at IDT Entertainment, a showbiz subsid of publicly traded phone and technology company IDT Corp.

Pomerance returns from a sabbatical. Her most recent post was exec veep at USA Films, and she also has been Gotham liaison for AMG and producers Arnold Kopelson and John Davis.

Pomerance will oversee the acquisition and development of feature film projects, as well as TV and direct-to-video fare. She reports to IDT Entertainment CEO Morris Berger and production president Yehuda Wurtzel.

The New Jersey-based IDT has the resources to become a force in 2-D and 3-D animation. Company acquired rights to the Gene Roddenberry creations "Char" and "Starpoint Academy" and is developing a CGI feature based on the latter. IDT Entertainment owns a controlling interest in Film Roman, the animator best known for "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill." It also owns a minority stake in Vanguard Animation, the company run by "Shrek" producer John Williams, and acquired Anchor Bay, the DVD and video distribution company.

In addition, IDT just signed Christopher Reeve to direct an original animated feature, an urban fable expected to be done in early 2005.

"I've been brought in to help get together a stable of feature films, and we are putting 10 projects into development," Pomerance said. "We have the ability to do anything from flash animation to 3-D, and we have the financing to make movies and then talk with distribution companies about an alliance."
