'Hope' springs for Rahimi in Afghanistan

World Brief

Rahimi Films Intl. will lens an Indo-Afghan joint venture "Spring of Hope" in Afghanistan in March.

The $200,000 love story will be shot in Pashtun and Persian languages with an Afghan cast and Indian crew. Its producer-director Hashmat Khan will also play one of the lead roles, with Niloufer and Mohammad Bashir also starring.

The film will be shot in the Afghan cities of Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif and Jalalabad. Pic is set against the backdrop of Afghanistan's political turmoil from the Russian occupation to the Taliban era, per Khan.

Rahimi Films has produced three Iranian movies, "Sitara," "Roya" and "Dear Afghanistan."

Khan says he's planning another pic, but so far only has a title, "Prem Dwand" (Conflict of Love).
