MADRID -- One of Spain's best-known distribution and marketing execs, Rafael Alvero, has been tapped general manager of exhib trade body the Federation of Spanish Film Entities & Impresarios (Feece).
Alvero, the former general manager of Polygram Filmed Entertainment and Universal Pictures, takes up his position immediately.
After the closure of PFE and Universal Pictures in Spain in 2000, Alvero created his own consultancy, the Atticus Entertainment Group, which worked with Universal Music, Dennis Davidson Associates, Telefonica Media, Sogecable and the European Film Academy.
"Exhibition in Spain has passed a milestone," Alvero said. "In a period of dynamic development, cinema circuits have built some of the most ambitious cinema theaters in Europe. I'm proud to be part of the consolidation of the sector."
Despite this modernization, exhibs' voices are rarely heard in debates concerning the future of the Spanish film industry.
Feece members, which include Warner Lusomundo Sogecable, UGC Cine Cite and UCI/Cinesa, control 90% of Spanish cinema screens.
Alvero will report to Feece prexy Primitivo Rodriguez.
