MONTREAL --
Variety will present the 10 most promising films of the year from North and South America at this year's Montreal World Film Festival.
Variety Critics' Choice: Americas Now will feature Canadian, U.S. and Latin American films produced within 12 months of the festival, as chosen by
Variety critics in collaboration with the festival. A jury will give a prize to the best film in the series.
"This new collaboration between the Montreal World Film Festival and
Variety will further contribute to the propagation of quality cinema," said fest prexy Serge Losique.
"We like to introduce audiences to everything from edgy experimental films to entertaining films with artistic qualities, comedies to psychological dramas, first-time filmmakers to master filmmakers," said
Variety executive editor Steven Gaydos.
The Montreal World Film Festival takes place Aug. 26-Sept. 6.
