D.C. gets Landmark plex

Venue to screen indie, foreign-language films

Landmark Theaters is set to open an eight-screen arthouse in northwest Washington, D.C., on Jan. 9.

The E Street Cinema is located in the Lincoln Square Building at 555 11th St. NW, with an entrance on E Street between 10th and 11th streets. Multiplex will show firstrun independent and foreign-language films, docus and classic revivals.

Venue features amenities such as stadium seating, Dolby Digital sound, an espresso bar and free parking.

The theater was designed by Brooks Graham of Graham Little Studio, which also worked on Landmark's Bethesda Row Cinema in Bethesda, Md.

"Landmark is thrilled to be a part of the revitalization of the Penn Quarter neighborhood," Landmark chief Paul Richardson said. "Penn Quarter already boasts some of the best dining and shopping in the city, and we think the addition of the E Street Cinema will quickly make it one of the most exciting destinations in town."

With the addition of the E Street Cinema, Landmark's nationwide circuit of arthouses totals 57 theaters with 204 screens in 18 markets. The Los Angeles-based company, recently acquired by entertainment investors Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, was founded in 1974.
