'Mountain' site left out in the cold
Teaser site idles as movie launch approaches

I'm all for movie billboards that simply tease with a glam shot and a large "Coming Soon."
But movie Web sites that tease, or even worse, sit there like a dead end sign -- that seems to be a waste of electrons.
So with Miramax's highly anticipated "Cold Mountain" arriving later this month, the movie's current Web site is simply a letdown, with nothing but the trailer available in a few media formats. What a missed opportunity not to have details about the director/writer, the synopsis, the book, the music, the production company... Of course, those things will appear later, but it doesn't require much work to have them up by the time the trailer is in theaters, given the development effort that has gone into the film itself.
Compare the satisfying level of detail available over at Yahoo's "Greg's Previews," updated by one person (Greg) occasionally over the past year or so. The "Cold Mountain" site currently is in fact a near mirror of the Apple Quicktime trailer site.
But what's worse is the link -- on the official site -- that promises a link to "The official site" ... which actually goes to Miramax's home page, where "Cold Mountain" is anything but front and center.
While you're waiting for the movie site to heat up, check out the epic poetry at similarly named coldmountain.com.
