Film board, Japan b'caster in pact

Canada's National Film Board has inked a deal with the Japan Broadcasting Corp. to pursue co-productions and expertise in HDTV and related fields.

The team's first co-production is "War Hospital," a documentary looking at the world's largest field hospital, northern Kenya's Loki, which handles the wounded from war-torn Sudan. To be directed by Alberta filmmaker David Christianson, "War Hospital" will be lensed in high definition.

The two are negotiating the distribution of each other's programs.
