Initial publicity paid off big time for Apple as users downloaded more than 1 million copies of its iTunes for Windows software within three days after it launched. In the same period, company sold more than 1 million songs via its online music store, which launched for PC users along with the new iTunes application.

When iTunes launched for Macintosh users in the spring, it took seven days for Apple to sell its first million songs. So far, it has sold 14 million songs at 99¢ each.
