Evanier gets WGAW nod as top toonsmith

Three-time Emmy nominee Mark Evanier has been tapped for the sixth annual animation writing award by the WGA West's Animation Writers Caucus.
The kudo will be presented tonight by the caucus at its annual reception.
Evanier is working for the Cartoon Network on an untitled pilot. Credits include "Dungeons and Dragons," "Scooby-Doo," "Thundarr the Barbarian," "Plastic Man," "Richie Rich" and "The Flintstones" as well as such live-action shows as "Welcome Back Kotter," "The Love Boat" and "Cheers."
"There have been significant advancements in the two-plus decades since Mark first made his entrance into the field of animation," said Victoria Riskin, president of the WGA West. "His contributions as a writer and advocate for the medium are immeasurable."
Craig Miller, chair of the caucus, said Evanier has been a mainstay of television animation since the late 1970s.
"His work as a creator, writer, producer and voice director have always been of the highest order and for that work alone Mark would be more than worthy of this award," Miller said. "But when you add to his professional accomplishments all the work he has done on behalf of writers, individually and collectively, he stands head and shoulders above most others in the field."
